The KSU Fall General Meeting
It’s GM time! This is your (first) chance (of many) to get involved in your Union! Have a say in how your money is spent, how you are represented to the University administration, and what direction your Union will take this year! As a King’s student you can speak to and vote on everything at this meeting!
There’s so much fun stuff going down at this GM I can’t even handle it. The meeting is Wednesday September 24 at 6:30PM in the KTS Red Room. We’ve got Committee Elections, Revised Bylaws, and the 2014-2015 Budget, plus a whole lot of snacks and some SuRpRiSeS!! Read on to find out more! Here is the agenda!!
Here are the minutes from the last General Meeting, which was on March 31, 2014.
YOU NEED TO COME TO THIS MEETING
This meeting is not one to miss, folks. General Meetings are a great place to hear more about how the Union operates, how we allocate funds to support student projects, and other ways that the Union benefits students. At these meetings, we all come together to collectively decide on the direction that our Union moves in!
It’s really important that everyone comes to this meeting. All of our initiatives by and for students depend on the decisions that we make together at these meetings. If you think you might be a member of a society this year, if you’ve enjoyed a coffee at the Galley or a beer in the Wardroom, if you’ve taken a free condom from the office, or if you’ve paid your tuition already and want to work to see it reduced, you need to to come to the General Meeting! Our ability to do all of these things depends on being able to check in with all the members of the Union to make sure we’re on the same page.
At the GM, as a King’s student, you have the right to speak at any time, to propose a motion or amendment, and to vote on every motion. If that sounds a little complicated, don’t worry! We know that this might be your first meeting like this, and we work to make these meetings easy to follow and participate in.
Last but DEFINITELY NOT LEAST, there will be snacks for everyone!!
We will be electing general members-at-large to several committees. Below is a description of each committee’s duties. If you would like to be on a committee but cannot make it to the GM, email email@example.com or ask a friend to nominate you!
Elections Committee – 6 members-at-large, 2 alternates – Elections Committee works with the Chief Returning Officer to organize and facilitate elections. They help create posters, sit at the voting booths, and count ballots.
Bylaw Review Commitee – 3 members-at-large – My favourite one! Bylaw Review Committee reviews proposed amendments to the Bylaws, and recommends changes to Council and the general membership. They make sure that our governing documents are accurate, transparent, and in keeping with provincial and national law.
Finance Committee – 4 members-at-large – These lovely folks work with the Union’s Financial Vice-President to make recommendations to Council about the financial affairs of the Union. They meet often to recommend approval of funding requests, and work with the FVP on the Union’s budget.
Academic Committee – 3 members-at-large – The Academic Committee monitors the curriculum, keeps the Union informed and active in issues of an academic nature, and to carry out other academic-related duties that Council determines.
Revised Bylaws and Operations Policy
There are some changes coming to the Bylaws and Operations Policy – the Union’s governing documents. Take a look below!Revised Campus Safety Committee

The 2014-2015 proposed budget is a wonderful document prepared by the Executive and Finance Committee that outlines our planned spending for the next year!Proposed 2014-2015 Budget
